The Sr. VMWare Engineer will be responsible for architecting, supporting and maintaining an EMC Vblock platform, with VMWARE and CISCO Hardware. The ideal candidate will have senior engineering experience with VMware ESX environments, EMC Storage, Microsoft Windows and Cisco Networking.

 

Candidates must have strong communication skills, and the desire to work in a fast paced environment.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as the Key contact for Wintel/Virtualization /Server/Storage design and support.
  • Lead Virtualization infrastructure improvements and initiatives and ensure enterprise compliance to standard procedures and protocols.
  • Drive team to fully exploit tools such as SRM to manage and maintain VMware environment efficiency
  • Provide escalation technical support and issues resolution of Windows-based servers and virtual environment
  • Ensure team is complying with patching standards for UCS/Dell Servers, Security and system patches on all Windows servers.
  • Perform QA for procedural documentation throughout the lifecycle of the system
  • Assist and mentor junior team members on projects and servers preparations.
  • Drive product assessments and POC initiatives
  • Participate in Change Management and Problem Management calls.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years doing virtualization/virtual system administration in a VMware 5.x and 6.0 environment.
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP) strongly preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge about VMware management tools (vCenter, vRealize Operations, VMware Configuration Manager).
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft server 2003/2008/2012.  MCSE and MCITP certifications preferred.
  • Extensive experience building scalable, highly available, mission critical virtual infrastructures
  • Experience should include designing, implementing and managing multiple virtual environments and vlans
  • Experience or working knowledge of Disaster Recovery technologies helpful.
  • Experience or working knowledge of Backup technologies helpful especially VEEAM
  • Multi-site environment experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience doing a one-to-many configuration/deployment of SRM.
  • Knowledge in conducting performance analysis for both the ESX host and their guests in the areas of CPU, Memory and I/O utilization.
  • Disaster recovery experience.
  • Working knowledge of automation for the purposes of deploying host/guest builds.
  • A general knowledge of server technologies, and network and enterprise storage technologies.
  • Excellent people skills with ability to handle difficult personnel situations.
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to apply them towards the investigation of existing installations.
  • The ability to establish performance models and validation techniques.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • The ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment and act as a self-starter.
